Characteristics

“Tapene” is the proper name of the caper fruit, exclusively harvested in the Pantelleria island, which is the birth place of this authentic Mediterranean fruit. In the last stage of maturity, the flower bud turns into fruit, gherkin-shaped, with rosy-colored pulp which is fleshy and crunchy.
The manufacturing process involves water and wine vinegar, in order to keep the typical flavour of this fruit intact.

It is a ready to use product, exclusively prepared with ripe fruits of medium size. The “cucuncio” (typical Sicilian word for the caper fruit) is an appetizing and delicious variation to the common aperitif snacks provided during the Happy Hour. The glass jar with the screw top is the most practical way for a product to be available in the desired quantities.

Tapene is successfully used as aperitif but also for tasty macaroni salads or chopped on pizza and in focaccia bread. Excellent combined with sausages and a good glass of Verdicchio di Matelica.
